Building Elsewhere is a publication covering residency, citizenship, tax, and entrepreneurship pathways in a small set of underrated countries. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit buildingelsewhere.com or subscribe to our newsletter, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
We try to collect as little as possible. We do not sell your data. We do not run behavioral ad networks. If we ever change these commitments, we will update this page and notify newsletter subscribers by email before the changes take effect.
Who we are
Building Elsewhere is operated by Aziel, the founder and editor. If you have any privacy-related question, you can reach us at admin@buildingelsewhere.com.
Information we collect
We collect three categories of information.
Information you give us directly. When you subscribe to our newsletter, you provide your email address. If you reply to a newsletter, comment on a post, contact us, or submit a form, we receive whatever you include in that message typically your name and email, and sometimes additional details you choose to share.
Information collected automatically when you visit the site. Like most websites, we log basic technical information when you load a page IP address, browser type, device type, pages viewed, referring URL, and the approximate time of your visit. We use this to understand which posts are being read and to keep the site secure. We do not link this information to your identity unless you are also logged in or have subscribed.
Information from cookies and similar technologies. We use a small number of cookies: one to remember that you’ve dismissed banners or notices, one to keep you logged in if you have an account, and basic analytics cookies to count unique visitors and track page views in aggregate. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels from ad networks.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect for a small set of purposes.
To send you the newsletter you subscribed to. To reply to emails, comments, or form submissions you send us. To understand which posts are being read and which topics readers care about. To keep the website secure and prevent abuse. To comply with legal obligations we are bound by.
We do not use your information for automated advertising decisions, credit decisions, or any profiling that would produce a legal or similarly significant effect on you.
Who we share your information with
We work with a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf. They are contractually required to use that data only to provide services to Building Elsewhere and not for their own purposes. These providers currently include:
FluentCRM — our customer relationship and email marketing platform, which stores your subscription information on our WordPress installation.
Resend — our email delivery service, which transmits newsletter emails to your inbox on our behalf.
Our website host — which stores the WordPress database where the site and its subscriber records live.
We may also share information if we are legally required to for example, in response to a valid court order or subpoena or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of Building Elsewhere, our readers, or the public.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
How long we keep your information
We keep your newsletter subscription information for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we retain a minimal record (typically your email in a suppression list) so that we do not accidentally re-subscribe you in the future. We keep basic server logs for up to ninety days for security and troubleshooting purposes, after which they are deleted or anonymized.
If you have sent us email directly, we keep that correspondence for as long as needed to maintain an ongoing conversation, and we will delete it on request.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have specific rights under applicable privacy laws including the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the United Kingdom’s Data Protection Act, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and similar laws.
These rights typically include the right to access the information we hold about you, the right to correct inaccuracies, the right to delete your information, the right to receive a copy of your data in a portable format, the right to object to certain uses of your data, and the right to withdraw consent for processing based on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, email admin@buildingelsewhere.com from the email address associated with your subscription. We will respond within a reasonable time, and in any case within the deadlines required by applicable law.
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email we send you, or by emailing us directly.
Children
Building Elsewhere is written for adults who are making significant decisions about residency, tax, and relocation. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of sixteen. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, please contact us and we will delete it.
International data transfers
Building Elsewhere is based in the United States, and our service providers may be located in the United States or other countries. If you are located in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with data protection laws that differ from U.S. law, please be aware that your information may be transferred to and processed in countries with different protections. We take reasonable steps to ensure that any such transfer is carried out in accordance with applicable law.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we collect, including encryption in transit, secure hosting, and access controls. However, no system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we ever become aware of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you and any applicable regulator as required by law.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and for changes that affect subscribers we will notify you by email before the changes take effect.
